Assistant Tax Manager

This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Tax Manager to join a well-established accountancy practice in Huddersfield. You’ll work with a diverse client base, oversee tax compliance, contribute to advisory projects and support the development of junior team members — all within a collaborative and supportive environment.

The Role

As Assistant Tax Manager, you’ll play a key role in the delivery of tax services across both compliance and advisory work.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a portfolio of personal and business tax clients.
  • Reviewing self-assessment tax returns, partnership returns and trust returns.
  • Supporting corporate tax compliance and reviewing computations where required.
  • Handling HMRC correspondence, enquiries and disclosures.
  • Assisting with advisory projects including capital gains tax, inheritance tax and succession planning.
  • Identifying tax planning opportunities and proactively advising clients.
  • Supporting and mentoring Tax Seniors and junior team members.
  • Managing workflow, deadlines and quality across assigned assignments.
  • Keeping up to date with tax legislation and sharing technical knowledge within the team.
  • Supporting senior management with technical input and client projects.

This role offers a strong balance between technical work, client interaction and people development.

About You

You’ll be a confident and commercially aware tax professional with strong practice experience.

You will:

  • Be ATT and/or CTA qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience.
  • Have experience working within a UK accountancy practice in a tax-focused role.
  • Possess solid technical knowledge of personal tax and related matters.
  • Ideally have exposure to corporate tax and advisory work.
  • Be confident managing client relationships and supporting complex queries.
  • Have strong communication, organisation and time-management skills.
  • Enjoy mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to a collaborative team culture.
  • Be proactive, detail-oriented and keen to progress your career.
