King Charles III Coronation – Reaching the pinnacle of a career

This weekend, up and down the United Kingdom and indeed around the world, communities will be getting together to celebrate the ascension to the British throne of King Charles III.

There will be street parties in towns and villages all over the country and millions of people will flock to the nation’s capital to try and catch a glimpse of the King and Queen Consort.

But for the head that will soon wear the crown, at the grand age of 74, King Charles is now being formally declared the post holder of the pinnacle role of his career.

Though most accountants won’t have spent their entire lives preparing for the role that will define them professionally, for lots of talented future leaders, a moment will come when you step into the most prominent post of your career.

And when that time comes, we really hope you have a few cheerleaders pushing you on to succeed, even if it’s not quite as many as will be flying flags for King Charles!

In today’s post we wanted to both formally congratulate King Charles III and also reach out to accountants seeking senior leadership positions as Partners or Partner Designates.

Here’s our top tips for securing the pinnacle post of your professional career in practice.

1. Back yourself!

Because if you don’t, no-one else will!

Approach your search for partnership with confidence. Take the time to remind yourself why you’re ready and what leadership skills and experience as an accountant you can bring to the table. Make sure they are on the tip of your tongue and be ready to back yourself whenever the opportunity arises.

2. Don’t blinker yourself to potential opportunities.

As you scan the horizon for the BIG job in your life, make sure you’re not closing off any avenues of potential. Keep an open mind about the size, location and style of firm you want to be a Partner at. Remember when you reach this level of leadership, you have the power to be the change, so seek out potential as well as firms who are already succeeding.

3. Polish off your online presence.

Though you don’t want potential fellow Partners to think you spend more time on social media than you do nurturing client relationships, make sure that your online brand is looking sharp.

We’ve written at length about what an online branding overhaul involves, so follow our advice here.

4. Take a different approach to the interview process.

Initially, you need to sell yourself and all of the incredible leadership skills and commercial acumen that you possess to firms looking to find their next Partner.

But as you progress through the process, at this level, it’s absolutely appropriate to turn the tables and ask the questions you need to know the answers to. You know that the firm that benefits from your very best professional years, needs to be a great fit for you. So take the time to get under the skin of the firm you’re talking to.

5. Work with the best recruiters to maximise your search.

Remember that most firms won’t be publicly recruiting for Partners.

The very best way to find out about potential new opportunities for Partnership is to pair up with a recruiter who has ongoing and trusted relationships with firms in the UK. Working with us means you’ll benefit from our unique insider knowledge about which firms are succession planning.

And there’s only one company in the UK that can provide that bespoke level of knowledge and service. At Public Practice Recruitment Ltd, we only recruit in practice and we cover every inch of the UK.

If the time has come for you to approach the pinnacle of your professional career as an accountant, reach out to us today in absolute confidence, our team are ready and waiting to help you find your crown!
