This is an outstanding opportunity for an Audit Director to join a well-established and progressive accountancy practice in Bideford. You’ll take responsibility for a significant audit portfolio, manage senior client relationships and contribute at leadership level to the future direction of the firm.

The Role

As Audit Director, you’ll combine technical leadership, commercial responsibility and strategic input across the audit function.

Key responsibilities include:

• Taking overall responsibility for a portfolio of statutory audit clients across multiple sectors.
• Leading and overseeing complex audit engagements from planning through to completion and sign-off.
• Acting as a trusted adviser to senior clients, providing commercial and strategic insight.
• Providing technical leadership and quality oversight across the audit department.
• Supporting partners and directors with audit strategy, workflow planning and departmental development.
• Leading, mentoring and developing Audit Managers, Senior Managers and wider audit teams.
• Ensuring audit work complies with professional standards, regulatory requirements and internal controls.
• Contributing to business development activity, tenders and client proposals.
• Playing a key role in recruitment, succession planning and talent development.
• Identifying opportunities to improve audit processes, efficiency and client service.

About You

You’ll be an accomplished audit professional with strong leadership presence and commercial awareness.

You will:

• Be ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent).
• Have extensive experience leading statutory audits within a UK accountancy practice.
• Be confident managing complex audits and senior client relationships.
• Possess strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP / FRS 102 and auditing standards.
• Have proven experience leading and developing high-performing audit teams.
• Be commercially minded, with the ability to contribute to firm-wide strategy and growth.
• Demonstrate excellent communication, leadership and relationship-building skills.
• Be motivated to operate at Director level with long-term commitment.
