We’re recruiting on behalf of a forward-thinking accountancy practice in Bury for a skilled and motivated Bookkeeper to join their growing team. If you’re highly organised, detail-driven, and confident using cloud accounting software, this role offers the perfect opportunity to work with a wide range of clients while developing your skills in a supportive, people-focused environment.

What you’ll be doing
- Leading day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, including bank and credit card reconciliations and invoice processing
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns across various VAT schemes, and handling VAT registrations/deregistrations
- Making journal entries for prepayments, accruals, depreciation, and payroll adjustments
- Supporting CIS clients by preparing and submitting relevant returns
- Reviewing purchase and sales ledgers for accuracy and completeness
- Providing client support with software training, setting up bank feeds, and linking systems to HMRC under Making Tax Digital (MTD)
- Working with cloud-based accounting platforms: Xero (75%), Sage (20%), and QuickBooks (5%), along with add-ons like Dext
- Assisting with factoring and PAYE reconciliations as required
What we’re looking for
- Solid experience with cloud-based accounting software (Xero essential; Sage and QuickBooks desirable)
- Confidence in all aspects of bookkeeping, including VAT submissions and CIS work
- Excellent organisation skills with a keen eye for detail and a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner
- A proactive attitude to improving systems and processes using technology and add-ons
