Employers: your team should NOT be working harder!
How many times have you said to yourself “There just aren’t enough hours in the day?” Well, for the first time in four years, you have a whole extra day to do whatever you please – Saturday 29th February! Yes, it’s a Saturday too.
So, what will you do with your extra day this leap year? Spend time with family, catch up with friends, catch up with work? Maybe you’ll be down on one knee, ladies? However you decide to spend your extra day, we hope you make the most of it.
All of this wishing for extra time in our lives made us think about how we shouldn’t be waiting every four years for a leap year to improve our productivity! We should make the most of every day – especially at work, as that’s where we spend most of our lives after all. So, how can we do everything we need to do during the day, without eating into our personal time and without burning ourselves out.
How to ensure we work smarter and NOT harder.
Effectiveness over efficiency – Efficiency is all about completing a task, maybe in a faster time. Effectiveness is about doing all of the right things and achieving a positive result. You need to focus on the things that matter. Trim the fat and do fewer tasks…really well. Also, scrap that vague, never-ending to do list and make tasks really specific and measurable. If client calls are on the agenda today then give yourself a target – 12 client calls by lunchtime. Focus on one task at a time, take regular breaks and eat that frog (tackle the job you’re dreading before all others)!

Go digital – The more distinguished readers amongst us (old!) will remember being handed a year’s worth of receipts in a shoe box and then being expected to complete a client’s tax return. With the minimum technology available, it would take days to sort through and piece together.
