Statistics tell us that there’s no shortage of qualified accountants.  Between 2012 and 2016, membership of UK and Ireland accounting bodies grew by 2.4%*.  There are now over 335,000 members.  The number of students is growing at a similar rate.

Interestingly, the number of registered audit firms has declined dramatically – by 17%, between 2012 and 2016*.  Sole practitioner numbers have declined even further – by 37% between 2003-2016*.

Plan ahead … always

We all know how dangerous statistics can be.  The truth of the matter is that there’s a distinct shortage of qualified accountants available for contract work.  The lesson to be learned?  Plan.  Plan well ahead.    You know when your busy times will be.  December to June is always frantic.  So, get the ball rolling early.  Make a diary note to call us at the end of the summer holidays.  Give yourself the best chance of a good recruiting result.

It’s the same with employee pregnancies.  If their maternity leave is due to start in May, call us in January.

Reliable, skilled, personable
