Audit and Accounts Trainee

Audit & Accounts Trainee Accountant jobs are found within accountancy firms otherwise known as public practices or accountancy practices.

Audit & Accounts Trainees are typically studying towards their professional accountancy exams which are usually sat through the ACCA or ACA. Alternatively, some Audit & Accounts Trainees sit their AAT examinations before progressing onto their ACCA/ACA studies.

Deciding which professional accountancy examination route to take can be daunting, indeed some Audit & Accounts Trainees find themselves changing their professional accountancy exams part way through their studies.

At Public Practice Recruitment Ltd we work with accountancy firms UK-wide and will be able to assist you in finding a new job as an accountant regardless of the examination route you wish to take.

We are actively recruiting for Audit & Accounts Trainees in all cities and towns in the UK including Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Birmingham, Coventry, Oxford, Reading, London, Norwich, Ipswich, Bath and Cheltenham to name but a few.

In many cases Accountancy firms will provide study support or a training contract for their Audit & Accounts Trainees to support them through their professional accountancy examinations.  The study package can usually be provided to support ACA/ACCA or AAT accountancy exams.

A study support package or accountancy training contract varies from firm to firm in its content. It could include the payment of examinations, time off to study including time off for examinations and resit examinations or even an in-house training team.

Audit & Accounts Trainees will, in most cases, undertake a wide range of general accountancy work within an audit & accounts department. This work could range from attending client premises to undertake audit fieldwork to assisting in the planning of an external audit.

Audit & Accounts Trainees will also be involved in the preparation of statutory accounts for a diverse range of business entities which could include Limited companies, Sole traders, Partnerships, Limited Liability Partnerships, Not for Profit Organisations, Charities and Academies.

Audit & Accounts Trainees will also undertake tax work which could extend to both personal tax and corporate tax compliance work through to tax and advisory work.  Depending on the complexity of the tax work the Audit & Accounts Trainee might be supported by a Tax Manager or Tax Senior Accountant or the work to be undertaken might be passed to a tax department in its entirety.

Generally, Audit & Accounts Trainees will support Audit & Accounts Senior Accountants otherwise known as Audit & Accounts Seniors.

Once an Audit & Accounts Trainee becomes an exam qualified ACCA, ACA or CA Accountant they may, depending on the accountancy firm they work for, be promoted to an Audit & Accounts Semi Senior Accountant or Audit & Accounts Senior level and enjoy more responsibilities and potentially lead some audits from planning to completion as well as reviewing statutory accountants prepared by more Trainee accountants.  Of course, how they have performed in their Audit & Accounts Trainee job will have a huge impact on any promotion.

Audit & Accounts Trainees are often the backbone to the ‘engine room’ of an accountancy firm as it is often they who are undertaking audit fieldwork and accounts preparation for an Audit & Accounts Senior Accountant, Audit & Accounts Manager or Audit & Accounts Partner to review.

At Public Practice Recruitment Ltd we work with accountancy firms of all sizes UK-wide to assist them in the recruitment of Audit & Accounts Semi Seniors; Audit & Accounts Seniors, Audit & Accounts Managers, Audit & Accounts Partners and Audit RI’s (Responsible Individual).
