Audit and Accounts Senior

Audit & Accounts Senior Accountant jobs otherwise known as Audit & Accounts Seniors are found within accountancy firms also known as public practices or accountancy practices.

Audit & Accounts Seniors work in jobs within an Audit & Accounts Department within an accountancy firm and usually report into an Audit & Accounts Manager; Client Manager, Audit & Accounts Partner or Audit & Accounts Director.

The split between audit & accounts work completed by an Audit & Accounts Senior can vary from one accountancy firm to another and from one month to another.  It’s fair to say that as the audit threshold increases the number of smaller accountancy firms undertaking audits decreases.  This in turn means that the number of accountants with an audit skillset is decreasing whilst the number of audit vacancies increasing.

An Audit & Accounts Seniors complete audits or assist in the completion of an audit, in accordance with specific laws or rules, of the financial statements of a company, government entity, other legal entity, or organization, and is independent of the entity being audited.

Audit & Accounts Seniors are typically ACCA; ACA or CA qualified accountants and usually have at least three years’ experience of working in audit. Alternatively, some Audit & Accounts Seniors are Qualified by Experience in that they have not completed a professional accountancy qualification but do have the practical experience to undertake an Audit Seniors job.

Audit & Accounts Seniors may well lead smaller audits from the planning stage through to completion of the audit.

An Audit plan is the specific guideline to be followed when conducting an audit. it helps the Audit Senior obtain sufficient appropriate evidence for the circumstances, helps keep audit costs at a reasonable level, and helps avoid misunderstandings with the client.

Accountancy firms of all sizes undertake external audit work with these firms ranging from the Big 4 Accountancy firms through to National and Regional sized accountants. In addition, many small firms of accountants undertake audit work for their clients.

Some firms of accountants are audit boutiques, this is where they solely concentrate on external audit work and employ a team of auditors.  These auditors would range from Audit Partner to Audit Manager and Audit Senior and Audit Semi Senior.
